Well, it started out great. I loved getting a solid 3 or 4 hours out of the battery, and the way the battery extended out of the laptop actually provided better air circulation under the laptop. However, after only 9 months the battery is failing. I ran the HP Battery Check because it seemed to be holding a charge for a shorter and shorter time. The check said there is a failure and to replace the battery. I expected more than 9 months for $101 dollar battery.

Started using this battery in December 2009 and initially the battery was great...almost 4 hours of use before recharging needed. After 4 months it dropped to 2 hours of use before charging. Then it dropped to less than 1 hour. In August it stopped charging to full capacity, only to 36%, although it still says "plugged in, charging". It is September and I need a new battery...after less than 9 full months of use. Given the cost I expected better quality.

Computer just shuts off without warning which it has done since replacing the battery. Ran a scan and it said the battery was defective. Emailed seller, no reponse.

I purchased this 12-cell HP battery to replace the worn-out 6-cell that came with my (now) nearly 3-year-old HP dv2000. I've yet to run down the battery completely to check for battery life, but did have it unplugged for a couple of hours and found it to still be above 50%. You're probably not going to get the battery life that the product claims, but it will last far longer than the 6-cell that you may be accustomed to. I would highly recommend this battery if you are in need of a replacement for the laptop models this is compatible with.
You will pay a bit more by going with the actual HP replacement battery as opposed to one of the cheaper, lesser known brands, but I have found it to still be a wise investment, at least in my experience. I had purchased a similar battery from a different manufacturer for around $40 (also reviewed if you check my history) and had that one arrive DOA straight from the box. After that I decided to bite the bullet, spend the extra cash, and get an HP replacement. I am glad I did.
Others reviewers have probably touched on this, but the size of the battery should be mentioned. Given that it is a 12-cell battery, as opposed to the 6-cell that came standard with the computer, it will protrude from the bottom of the laptop once attached, making the rear sit higher than the front. This wasn't an issue for me, in fact I actually prefer it as it seems to keep my laptop better vented and running cooler. Still I have seen some reviewers upset at this. It is the trade-off for extra battery life. If the size is an issue then you would be better served going with the smaller 6-cell model.
